Praise to the Man

Yesterday afternoon I took a moment to reflect on my dear prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, and I thought to myself, "Gosh, he is getting so old, he could leave us any day now. What am I going to do when that day comes?" Not answering the question I posed to myself I went on with my day. A few hours later we received the news that the President of our restored gospel had just passed. And at that moment I suppose my question was answered - I was in shock. We continued dinner but I couldn't allow myself to think about the loss. Later that night is when I was able to contemplate the matter. I am happy for him to be reunited with his sweetheart and his family and ultimately his Lord and Savior. What a day he must have had. We should only rejoice for him and be happy for all the wonderful years of service. I will miss his sweet little personality and sense of humor. I will miss his words of wisdom and counsel. I will miss the opportunities to see him again. Like my sister mentioned, we were able to see him quite often in Laie. I was even privileged to have him speak at my graduation commencement. What an honor it was to be in his tremendous presence. He will surely be missed. And I will remember him as a leader and a man of influence in my young life.Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

love the tribute. he was so cute at our graduation, i wanted to run up to him and hug him so so so bad. we didn't even get to shake, but i made sure to make eye contact and smile, made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. he was such a great and loving man.

he was a cute,little ol man doing the lords work. very loving. at the beginning of most interviews he would say "go easy on me i'm just an old man." i love that...

My Dad was expressing to me what I had not taken the time to think about before. Those of us that had the oppertunity to have the President of the church, a Modern Prophet, and especially sweet President Hinckley, speak at our graduation have a rare gift. He pointed out to me that in the last few DECADES there have been few times that the President speaks at Commencement Exercies. It makes his life that much more personal to me.
